DirectShow is more universal, it can read most of media formats (if filters
installed), and can also use QuickTime as a filter. So I think it is better
to use DirectShow.
If you open a QuickTime file with DirectShow technique, it automaticaly
inserts QT decompressor, but you have an option to control a window, draw
control buttons yourself etc. Such a player will work same with QT files as
AVIs, MPEGs, etc.

QT is good on Macs, Direct Show is good on Windows... They were designed and
implemented for different purposes...

If you are looking for QT on windows. QT 5.0 System is the best way of
handling the QT complaint file formats. Directshow doesnot exist on Macs.

Directshow is the best bet for handling the Windows complaint Media File
Formats. It also handles QT to an extent (only till version 3.0, this is
when Microsoft had liscence with Apple), the new Qt fromat from 4.0 and up
are not handled by Directshow.

They're good for different things.

QT is cross-platform (Mac and Windows), while DX is Windows only. QT
supports more still image and video formats. QT uses DirectDraw, and
hence gains some hw accel.

DX generally uses more hw accel - particularly for some of the heavier
codecs (motion comp, deinterlacing and color space conversion). It
generally takes better advantage of multithreading and multiple
processors. While DX doesn't include MPEG2 as standard, numerous MPEG2
codecs are available (they often come with graphics cards or DVD
drives), providing good video playback quality.

| Hi,
|
| So, it does not exist any codec or DirectShow filter making it possible to
| play "new" QuickTime movies with DirectShow.
| Is it possible to convert these "new" QuickTime" moves to Windows Media
| Format?
