Hello everyone,

I'm new to the robotics industry and have been doing some research...My goal
is to be trained as an industrial robotics programmer. I found this site
www.msroboticsstudio.com and got redirected to a robotics certification
site....on there site they offer courses, I spoke with a rep and they are
projecting to start offering classes with MS robotics Studio mid year. Their
expertise according to the rep is enrolling students into Industrial robotics
training, like Motoman, ABB and Panasonic: They prepare graduates for full
time employment programming industrial robotic arms. My question to you, the
forum community is: Would I benefit from Microsoft Robotics Studio and maybe
wait for those courses to start or just go get training in industrial robots
as Microsoft may not even be introduced into this field

While Microsoft has endorsements from companies like Kuka and ongoing
discussions with many industrial automation vendors, it would be fair to say
while there is interest in Microsoft Robotics Studio, that integration into
their existing products will probably take time, probably proportionally to
the degree that their robots incorporate PC based technology. So it may
depend on your horizon. Considering that Microsoft Robotics Studio just
officially launched v 1.0 in December it is probably unrealistic to assume
that it would replace existing industrial automation systems in the
near-future, but longer term may be more a possibility and depending on the
vendors, in some cases maybe never. The opportunity for Microsoft Robotics
Studio depends more whether a specific vendor is looking for innovative new
directions or to reduce costs. It would make little sense to rework existing
software they already have working without motivation.

Microsoft Robotics Studio probably has a bigger impact on the other parts of
the robotics industry which have not had good architecture and tools in the
same way that the Microsoft had an impact on the emerging PC industry rather
than the then mainframe and mini-computer industry. However, if industry
automation evolves to incorporating more PC based technology then Microsoft
Robotics Studio becomes more relevant.

So in summary, MSRS is the newcomer on the block. Industrial automation has
been going on for over 20 years and are just learning about it. It's not
likely to change that industry over night and will vary based on who the
vendor is and the directions they are going.

I read the Haagendaz post and checked out the site msroboticsstudio.com to see what kind of robotics program they were offering. I was redirected to a site called the Robotics Certification Standards Alliance. It seams that they are working with the Industrial robotics manufacturers for training students and are planning to add Microsoft Robotics Studio in a full .net developer program. This company is planning on building a Robotic nation of super programmers for the Manufacturing industry. Check it out www.msroboticsstudio.com and follow the link.
