I recently installed WinXP SP1 on a new harddrive and
upgrade IM to 6.1. It would not allow me Remote Assistant
to or from anyone. It kept saying I needed the latest IM
version. Back then 6.1 was the latest. Now IM got
upgrade to 6.2 and it still doesn't work. Now it
says "The program is disabled or is not installed on your
computer." I checked my remote assistance setting in the
System Properties -> Remote tab and it is checked.

What else am I missing or forgot to install?

I should also mentioned I have another computer with WinXP
RTM and IM 6.2 and it gives to remote assistance.

Thanks for any help.

Thao

Greetings Thao,

What it's actually saying is you need the latest Windows Messenger -- not MSN Messenger.
Remote Assistance is dependant on Windows Messenger being installed (but no need to be
running) and as such, requires the latest version installed to work properly:

Thanks Jonathan.

I updated my Messenger (not MSN Messenger.) However I'm
still getting the same message:

The invitation from MouaRacing to start Remote Assistance
was declined. The program is disabled or is not installed
on your computer

You have any other suggestion? Thanks

Thao

Hi Thao,

It sounds like it's also been broken in your registry (also due to the removal of Windows
Messenger). Download and run the following file, and then reboot (assuming your Windows is
in C:\Windows, otherwise you'll need to edit this in a text editor like Notepad):
