Hi all,

My share folders disappeared and can't seem to recreate. I get the above
message.

Windows file wall is turned off.

Router: 2Wire 270HGV Gateway.

I'm wondering if the problem is not in the router?

TIA

Greetings,

The Sharing Folders should practically work through any networking scenario.

If you open up any Messenger window, press the Alt key, choose the Tools menu, then Options,
then choose Sharing Folders -- are all the options available in here or?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Use a sharing folder when I drag.....
When I drag a file..........

are both checked but all the contacts are grayed out.

Free space on drive is about 11G at this point.

BTW, I find Messenger works fine on the other machine. It's this one that
won't create share folders now.

Hi again,

OK finally found a utility that removed Messenger and then installed again.
This version is slightly newer (8.5.1302.1018), perhaps the latest????
Anyway it appears to be back up and running again since I have sharing
folders and actually is synchronizing with a user.

Whew what a struggle. Most of the day spent with this problem!!!

Hi,

Out of curiosity, were you using 8.1 before?

====================================================

I FINALLY got this thing to work. Here is how...

Firstly...Install .NET 3.5 Framework from...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

Once you have installed that and rebooted...

Click Start
Click Run
Type services.msc and hit enter (this brings up a list of services)

Go down the list, find and change/check these services...

Windows Cardspace - Startup Type Automatic
Event Log - Startup Type Automatic
Error Reporting Service - Startup Type Automatic
MSN Sharing Folders USN Journal Reading Service - Startup Type
Automatic

If you don't know how to change startup type...just do this...

Find the service, double click it and a properties box will appear.
Startup type is in the drop down box. After you select it make sure
you do APPLY and OK.

Once you have done all this...

Reboot, load Messenger and enjoy!
