Using 6.2. When I attempt to change my display or background picture
get a pop up that states "Image cannot be displayed or resized, please
select another picture or try later". Msn support had me
uninstall/reinstall messenger, clear temp files and cookies, no joy,
still have the same problem. Pictures are in the correct format and
size. Any ideas appreciated.

I have used MSN Messenger for quite some time, and have
used 6.2 with the Display Picture successfully. Out of the
blue, Display Pictures stopped working.

I have EXACTLY the same problem as the person below, same
version of MSN Messenger, I have uninstalled & reinstalled
twice.

On a fresh install of MSN Messenger 6.2, downloaded today:
1. I can tick the box at Tools/Options/Personal-Show My
Display Picture And Allow Others To See It, but after I hit
OK, if I go back to have a look, the box is now unticked.
Obviously, no display picture is displayed either.
2. Similarly, when I click on "Select Picture" there are
zero pictures shown - not even the standard ones. An
associated bug/problem?

Hmmmn....

This problem was fixed for me by following the advice that
Jonathan Kay (an MVP) provided for someone else.

Basically, you need to delete your Messenger settings.

Jonathan's advice is pasted here for convenience:

Greetings,

You may need to completely remove your Messenger settings
and then try again. To do so,
close MSN Messenger if it's running by right-clicking the
Messenger icon in the notification
area/system tray, by the clock and choose Exit. Then,
click Start, then Run,
then type:
%appdata%\microsoft
and click OK.

Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and choose Delete.
After all this, restart Messenger
and see if the problem has been corrected.

Cods, you da man. You have no idea how long I have been struggling
with this. Did as instructed and it works. Johnathan is my man of the
year. You made my day. Tom

Jonathan, follow up question. Since I did this, Msn Error reporting is
popping up to phone an error home. I am having no issues that I'm
aware of to report. Anyway to stop this? Thanks, Tom

Greetings,

If you simply tell it not to send the error report then the message should go away.

If it still keeps coming up, then you must be having some issue, if you click the "click
here" link for the details of the error, what does it say?

I just turned it off via my firewall. I have had this issue before. I
am not having any problems so I am treating it as a glitch and ignoring
it. Thanks
