Hi there,

I have encountered several problems with hotmail and have tried submitting a
help request to the hotmail staff, but have come back with the following
error when trying to post the form:

Unregistered Eform source.
DCOPS tracking code : E234GH69.178.23.21122222U

Since I am unable to get help from them, I was hoping some of you folks
could provide insight for me...

The following is the most perplexing one:

Everyday, I receive emails from various sources with links embedded.
However, when I try to open these links (in new windows), either the
secondary window doesn't open at all or opens with file not found. When I
place my cursor over the link, it starts with "OpenWin:JavaScript". I have
enabled JavaScript on my browser, but it still doesn't work.

If anybody could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!

BTW I am running Internet Explorer 6.0, WinXP SP2.

Thanks,

Pamela

Are you right clicking to open in a new window? I may be wrong about this,
since I'm not a JavaScript programmer, but I think that OpenWinJavaScript
will automatically open it in a new window, if you left click. That may be
why you're getting the blank page when you try to Open in A New Window
(Right click).

Hope this helps you.
Patrick.

Hi Patrick,

I usually try to open the link by left-clicking the link; however, I receive
the following error (on the status bar, it says "Error on Page"; I
double-click that):

Line: 41
Char: 3
Error: 'SymRealWinOpen' is undefined
URL: whatever URL I'm trying to open

That is when I try to right-click the link, but also run into problems there
as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Pamela

SymRealWinOpen is being generated by Norton Internet Security, turn off its ad blocking/popup stopper and see if it works.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I wonder if anybody else is having that problem
and what they do to work around it...

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the advice, I turned off the ad blocking on Norton, and it seems
to have helped somewhat. However, with it turned off, I still sometimes
receive one of the two following messages on some emails when the link is
trying to open in a new window:

1. The page cannot be found.

2. Your email message has been idle and this link has become inactive. To
access the link, close this window and return to your Message. Then click
the browser's Refresh button or close your message and reopen it. (even
though the message was not idle; I opened it and clicked immediately on the
link).

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!
Pamela

For 1. Clear your Temporary Internet Files(Tools/Internet Options/Delete files). As I understand how NIS works, it inserts that line in your stored source code of the page and if IE is still looking at TIF file, it will still cause a problem. You might need to uninstall/reinstall NIS as turning it off is a temporary work around and something isn't working right in it.

For 2. See if clearing the TIF corrects it as I don't have an idea of what the problem is.
