I just try all of our Hotmail accounts and got the same screen.
"The page you are trying to access is temporarily not available or no longer
exists".
I can remember the days when Hotmail actually worked fairly well. The BMSN
days. That is before MSN.
"The page you are trying to access is temporarily not available or no longer
exists"
has now changed to
"We apologize, but your account is temporarily unavailable. This delay does
not affect the entire site or relate specifically to your account, but the
machine that holds your account information is temporarily unavailable. We
do not expect this delay to last much longer, so please continue to check
our site for your account status.
We will do our best to make your account available as quickly as possible.
We appreciate your support, and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience."
I appreciate the efforts :)
PS: Now MSN Messenger won't connect either (although a few minutes ago it
did) :)

Message it's giving says just certain accounts are broken. Seems all my
accounts are down, and all my colleague's too.
Even the "sign up for a new account" is broken.

Friends & colleagues reported the same about two hrs ago...but mine
didn't go down until about 30mins ago. They are working on the issue, and
there may be some latency for some time (less than 24hrs) after it is fixed.
Passport logins will also be affected for a time.

Both my Hotmail and my MSN, both my wife's, my son's, my daughter's, and
two of my neighbors. I guess we ALL must be on the same "machine". Either,
that is a whale of a coincidence or some one isn't telling the truth.
Must be the former. It couldn't possibly be the latter. >gr<

"I've found that these days, Hotmail outages are far and few between," he
said. For a free service, I couldn't ask for anything more. I think my
electricity at home is less reliable than Hotmail--that's quite an
achievement. I'm very pleased with the reliability and accessibility of
Hotmail and am even considering paying the $20 annual subscription fee...I'd
pay up to $50 a year for Hotmail without blinking an eye."

Wow, an article on C|Net with some perspective.

By the way, it just came back up. And it was really worth waiting for. I had
23 messages arrive in my two Hotmail accounts since the beginning of the
outage. All but one was spam.
I guess we can conclude that the outage was NOT to improve Hotmail's spam
filtering. >gr<

It is back up on my end as well. Just two personal messages waiting for
me.

With MSN, failure is not an option.
It comes bundled with
the service.

He pondered over the fact that Passport was also unavailable, and remembered
Microsoft's Passport overview page at
http://www.microsoft.com/myservices/passport/overview.asp
where it details how Passport is a high quality service, 3.5 billion
authentications a month. Given it was unavailable for 12 hours, that's tens
of thousands of failed authentications, with people unable to sign into both
Hotmail, Ebay, Slate, Microsoft, Expedia and dozens of other sites as listed
on http://www.passport.com/Directory/Default.asp?lc=1033
"I've found that these days, many sites on the internet all depend on a
single point of failure : Microsoft's Passport system" he said. "For such a
high profile authentication system, it ought to be more reliable and not
subject to these outages. I don't pay my bank to provide my credit card
authentications, but it always works."
