I have two Windows 2008 servers that are on workgroup. Each one of them has
MSMQ Server Service installed. But when I am trying to access the queues
across the servers that is access queues of server 1 from server 2 or vice
versa I am getting the error message Message queue service not available. At
the same time I can access the MSMQ locally. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi JK

I'm assuming you are trying to receive messages from a queue on the other
machine (which uses RPC) rather than sending messages to the other machine
(which uses MSMQ).

Could be a few things:

1 Firewall settings
http://blogs.msdn.com/johnbreakwell/archive/2008/07/10/getting-msmq-messages-out-of-windows-server-2008.aspx

2 Secure RPC
http://blogs.msdn.com/johnbreakwell/archive/2007/01/15/msmq-3-0-too-secure-for-you.aspx

3 Queue security
Make sure Everyone and Anonymous Logon has access.

Hi John,

Thanks for the answer! But this still did not help. The two servers are on
domain but logged on locally as Administrator. I am trying to get a login for
domain that I can use and see if this helps.
I did enable the RPC-EPMAP and even had the Firewall turned off with Allow
all inbound connection. Also added the value in registry and restarted the
server.

Thanks again,
JK

Hi

Didn't you start off saying the two machines were on a workgroup?
If the machines are in a domain, is MSMQ installed as Active Directory
Integrated?
