Hope someone can advise as I'm being driven nuts by this problem.

Dell Studio 15 laptop, Windows 7 64 bit.

I just purchased a Lifecam Cinema specifically for my son to use with his
Stop Motion animation software (SMP 6).

First up, on running the installer package (from the latest web version),
all looks OK during the install - camera detected when plugged in and device
drivers loaded. The s/w installation conpletes, the device is visible in
device manager.

If you try and run the just installed MS Lifecam s/w it fails to detect the
camera - says camera not connected even though it's visible in Windows. If
you run up MS Live Messenger and go into the Tools, video test routine this
picks up the camera and it works just fine, but the MS Lifecam s/w stubbornly
refuses to see the camera. Tried uninstalling rebooting, re-installing - no
difference.

The Stop Motion Pro software originally detected the camera and we were able
to use it successfully. Today when we try and select the Lifecam on starting
up Stop Motion Pro, we get an Access Violation Error and the are unable to
connect to the camera.

As I say being driven mad by this. Firstly an MS Product Windows 7, and
another MS Product Lifecam s/w seemingly not working together at all, then
when I try and use the actual s/w I want to use with the thing that fails too.

Help!

Hi david! My name is Griff and I have had the same problem with my lifecam
cinema with windows 7 64bit. It looks to me like there is nothing wrong with
the drivers or the compatibility between the camera and windows 7. The
problem lies with the lifecam software itself. Funny how microsoft would
make a product thats software wont even work with its own operating system...

PS. I decided to switch to a logitech pro 9000 webcam that also does 720p
video, and guess what!? The driver fails to load on windows 7 64bit as well,
even though it says it is compatible.

Also, I am a very experienced user, so I have troubleshooted these things
down to the last detail. Microsoft just needs to do a little more testing
before they release these things.

Did you download the latest WebCam software for Win7:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/DownloadResult.aspx?category=ICE&type=LifeCam&name=H5D-00001&os=Win7_3264&lang=en

And did you read the Read the "Readme File" there? For example the reference
that .NET needs to be enabled?

Hi Mark, I enabled .NET, followed all the microsoft instructions, removed the
logitech software, cleaned the registry from logitech drivers, added the
UpperFilters line in my registry, tried different USB ports, installed the
latest lifecam and uninstalled it a couple of times, checked the windows
media player it's version 12 and don't know what else I can do to make the
video work.

lifecam cinema HD, win7 64bit ultimate, asus p6t deluxe v2, i7-920, 6gb RAM.

Thanks!

Have you tried reducing the resolution in the WebCam software?
Or will the software not start at all?

You may need to contact support. See http://support.microsoft.com/hardware

I've been battling this cam with those issues for sometime now, in fact, in my situation I must have unistalled and reinstalled this camera's software 20 times and more to get it to work.

I finally stumbled upon something that the Studio cam needs to have to make it work properly, and that is a download of what Microsoft calls, .Net - pronounced 'Dot Net' you need to have this installed on your Windows 7 computer for the Microsoft software to work with the camera.

Yes, in my case, I was able to use the cam with various other programs but not it's own software from Microsoft, have a look at a video that I uploaded to youtube with the fix here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5S8HwIKxR4&list=UUxo8mzstTgo7dXgkF-FfzHQ&feature=share

It solved my problem that I spent too many hours trying to solve. It's equipment like this that makes me lose faith in Microsoft products.
