sidewinders are not good to get if you have XP...sorry i
cant help but try searching the MS knowledge base, there

The Sidewinder v3.2 software is not compatible with WindowsXP... however
this does not mean that your Sidewinder device won't work.

Connect it to the gameport. Go to the Control Panel and doubleclick on Game
Controllers. Add the device either by selecting it from the drop down list
or ask XP to Auto Select.

The Sidewinder v4.0 software won't work with a gameport joystick, so don't
even waste time trying to find it online... it's not available unless you
call Microsoft for a replacement CD.... and this option is ONLY for the USB
Sidewinder devices that require v4.0 software.
