Does anyone know where I can download the software?
Everything in our HW world is based off of www.microsoft.com/hardware. From
there, there shoudl always be a link in the left navigation pane for
"Dowloads". Currently it's under Resources, but that's always subject to
change. ;-)
Hope that helps!

Thanks for responding. I have done this quite a few times but the problem is
that I'm not sure what to pick from the drop down menu. I pick mouse, and
then the next drop down menu does not list the Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000.
Which software should I pick since the Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 isn't
on the list?
Thanks,
Nathan
I have just bought the Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 for use with my macbook
pro and have the same issues with the software or lack of it
I used the wireless mouse 5000 and ended up at the intellimouse 6.2 sw - but
how do I assign the 4th button - there is no provision for this it seems - or
am I missing something?
the 4th button is why I chose this mouse and it is disappointing to not be
able to use it
any ideas?

I ran through the wizard and it wants to install 'btwhid.sys' on WIDCOMM
Installation Media, which I have no idea where to find this file. It's not
in my Win32 drivers folder or easily downloadable from any website that I've
searched.
I also tried & downloaded the IP32Eng6.20.182.0.exe from Microsoft and get
this error:
"C:\...IP32Eng6.20.182.0.exe is not a valid Win32 application." but my
laptop is XP SP2 32bit, not 64. I even tried the "workaround" in the Mouse
Propertied and changed the "Connected device" to "Wireless IntelliMouse
Explorer for Bluetooth" and still can't connect.
Yes, my Bluetooth is enabled and my laptop can see the mouse and says its
connected, but it moving the mouse doesn't move the cursor. HELP!!!
Thanks,
Trissa
My laptop: HP/Compaq nx9420 XP SP2
I know that in the help we say that we only officially support the Microsoft
bluetooth stack. We simply can't test all of the other stacks. Doesn't mean
that they won't work, just that we can't promise you that they will.
You could try installing the 6.2 driver and choosing the wireless
InteliMouse Explorer for bluetooth, and then see if you can set the Advanced
Bluetooth Settings. Here's what the help says about them:
Software-managed Bluetooth mode Use this mode when you share a mouse between
multiple computers.
The software is configured automatically each time you start the computer.
You can move your mouse and the Microsoft transceiver to another computer
without installing the software or reconfiguring the device
Hardware-managed Bluetooth mode Use this mode when you use your mouse with
one computer.
Your transceiver behaves like a standard Bluetooth radio when you start your
computer and results in no delay.
Wish I could be more help.

I wish it, too. I have installed 6.2 version of the Wireless InteliMouse
Explorer for Bluetooth driver and I don't see any Advanced Bluetooth Setting
option in it anywhere. The driver works the same way as what I had before:
it does not pair up with the mouse automatically after I turn up the mouse
and make it discoverable. I still have to go through the manual "Add
Bluetooth Device" routine as before. Why can't your MS driver discover you
own MS mouse automatically?

In a previous installation, the mouse automatically installed using the
Vista built-in drivers and worked flawlessly for about a month. (Mouse was
detected when notebook was awakened.) So I know it can work, but for some
reason Vista detected a problem last night and could not diagnose the
problem. I restored from the last known working system and now there's no
mouse driver for my Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 and no way to install one.
Except for the Dell laptop itself, all products (OS, mouse, drivers, IE,
etc.) are Microsoft products. Evidently MS did not test using MS products.

You might try a drop of Crazy Glue ... ;-)
thanks for the suggestion.
Having previously worked, it now does not.
Using the Bluetooth wizard we can connect to the mouse but it simply does
not work, despite being recognised by the notebook and with a status in the
control panel as working properly.
During the process of connecting using the Wizard, the notebook searches for
driver software which it does not find because it does not exist.
We know that the mouse is OK as it can be used on another laptop and a PC.
This is a good, but expensive device. It would be great if you could make it
work.
I tried uninstalling and reconnecting, but in the end Windows says it
failed to install the drivers, but it's showing in the Devices as
connected again. I also tried doing a system restore, since it was
working 2 days ago, but that didn't work either.

I just purchased this mouse, and I'm trying to make it work with my HP

I still don't find this mouse on the list in Intellipoint software.
The mouse is recognized in BT peripherals section as MS bluetooth
notebook mouse 5000, but then windows tries to locate and install
driver software and in result I get a message that an "unidentified
device is installed and ready to use".
Under BT tab in mouse properties mouse is recognized properly, but the
cursor doesn't move and none of the buttons works.
Is there any way to make it work?

Also, since I just started using these I'm not sure if the those
people looking for a link to the drivers found what they were looking
for but MS lists the mouse as Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 5000. It's at
the bottom of the list in the drop down box.
Out of the blue this bluetooth didn't work. I have tried installing
intellipoint software 6.2, but nothing has worked? What's going on?
Can you point me in the right direction?

Have a very similar problem, and same computer, same mouse.
Did you ever get it figured out? It's driving me mad - mouse worked, now
doesn't - won't connect even when you go through all the steps - mouse works
on other computers (even another Sony) and my Vaio will recognise and connect
with a Blackberry (Blackberry evn picks up the mouse) Go figure.
Was wondering if anyone had figured it out.

This is a very old thread on the mouse and there are some more recent
postings, including one where I offer to send you a copy of the QuickStart
Guide if you need it. (The setup information isn't usually on the box, so
don't feel bad about tossing that.) Send me email directly (remove the
"online" part from my reply email address) and I'll gladly send you the PDF.
Here are some Knowledge Base articles you can try, if you'd rather:
952818 How to connect the Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 to a notebook or to
a portable computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952818
953695 The Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 does not let you reassign the
functions of its buttons http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953695
And just to repeat what I've said in other threads, I know now that the
Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000:
1) does not use any driver software - it must work with your native BT stack
on your box. (Installing the IntelliPoint driver will not change anything
about using this mouse)
2) does not have any USB receiver - you must have an onboard BT receiver or
a separate USB dongle
3) does not let you reconfigure your button assignments
4) the packaging does not say one way or the other whether you can re-assign
the buttons. I have suggested that in the future we should be more clear
about that.
Hope that helps,

I have tried this many times and it does not work. Under control panel/mouse
I do not have an option for 'connected device', nor do I have the option to
select wireless intellimouse' anywehre in mouse settings. I am using Vista 64
bit. I tested the mouse on another laptop on XP and it works fine, but I am
still unable to use the back button on Vista. I even changed the button
settings and they do not work.
Any ideas?

I know what your problem is and it is rather simple, however, regretfully
purchacing the mouse is a sad notion. My opinion is that I will never buy an
input device from another manufacturer (I am a hardware vendor and an
enthusiast and hundreds of different brands pass through my fingers every
week), There simply is nothing better.
Now, Dell install a hardware bluetooth device with a PID that has been
modified to so that Windows does not recognise it as a usable bluetooth
device and in doing so, force you to install the bluetooth software they
supply. This is a pain, I know. I was able to in the past modify the bth.ini
file to recognise the modified PID that HP uses so that Windows saw it and
used it, but this has not worked as well with the Dell E6500. not sure about
the D630 though...
Just install the bluetooth drivers and ensure that they work, then connect
the mouse.
Cathy,
Thank you for your time. The sad thing is that there is no available option
when installing the software for the mouse to select the correct mouse
option. This is sad as it is not easy to enable the 4th button (on the side).
causing a loss of functionality of the mouse.
Are you able to get this sorted out with the driver development team?

MS is saying saying that they can't provide support to assign key functions
to THEIR 4 button mouse running on THEIR OS. As a 20+ year CAD tech, this
mouse is simply worthless to me as the scroll wheel MUST act as a middle
click! I threw this mouse in the garbage and purchased a Logitech BT mouse
(M555b) that works beautifully on my Dell Precision M6400 Workstation laptop
. Fully PROGRAMMABLE buttons, laser, auto shut-off, better ergonomics, etc.
Can't go wrong with this AWESOME mouse.

Use the Instruction Card that Microsoft sends with the product, it's
there... Hope it helps.

See the response I posted to a very similar problem with the Bluetooth
Notebook Mouse 5000 at this link:
I think I may have figured out how to solve the problem.
In case that link does not work (it looks kind of complicated), here is the
text of my reply in that other discussion:
I had the same problem for quite a while (Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse
5000 would not pair with a Lenovo W500 laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 32
bit), and I finally solved it by doing the following:
1) Left-clicked on the Bluetooth symbol in the notification tray, selected
"Open Settings".
2) Adjusted the check-marks in the Options tab (tab that appears first, by
default) as follows -
2a) 'Allow Bluetooth Devices to find this computer' - yes, put a check mark
in that.
2b) 'Allow Bluetooth Devices to connect to this computer' - yes, put a
check mark in that also.
2c) 'Alert me when a Bluetooth Device want to connect' NO, remove the check
mark from that box.
By putting a NO (no check mark) in the third check box down the list, I was
able to stop bubbles from popping up from the Bluetooth symbol in the tray.
Instead, all I would get was a rather large window in the middle of the
screen. I confirmed that the mouse was the item I wanted to add (it
identified itself clearly as soon as I pushed the pairing button on the
bottom of the mouse), and I was then presented with a window where I could
choose "This device does not have - or does not need - a pairing code".
Finally, it worked.
My hypothesis is that if you leave the 'Alert me when a Bluetooth Device
want to connect' box checked, the pop-up balloon from the notification tray
somehow supercedes the input you provide in the large window in the middle of
the screen - and this prevents the large window in the middle of the screen
from presenting you with a second page (second window) where you can declare
that the friggin' mouse has no pairing code, just connect it.
The only way I discovered this was through repeated trial and error, using
various combinations of the check boxes.
Hope this helps the rest of you.

The issue is very simple: There is no option for NOT using a passkey. Unless
I put in a passkey I can't press the "next" button. So I'm stuck in this
endless loop since using say 0000 or 1111 does not work as passkeys with his
mouse.
This is a clear Bug, could you ask for a fix please.
RT
Follow these knowledgebase instructions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952818
I just did it and it worked. I haven't rebooted yet, but hopefully it won't
lose connection.
RT
I have had this mouse for a while (worked great under linux, not surprisingly)
Now I am attempting to use it under Windows 7, and the mouse will randomly
stop working. It works for a time, and then will just quit. I have to
restart the mouse in order to get it working again.
Any idea?

Bluetooth stack data: Toshiba, v4.31.02.6(D) - Installed on Dell M4300
I bought this same wireless mouse and was working fine at first with Windows
7 on my Sony VAIO Laptop VPCCW13FD which has a Broadcom Bluetooth transceiver
integrated. For some reason it stopped to work and the mouse is nor
discoverable anymore. I tried installing many different drivers, from
Broadcom or from Sony VAIO support website but still the wizard doesn't see
the mouse (it is in discoverable mode).
The problem doesn't seem to come from the mouse because I have Ubuntu 9.10
installed and their bluetooth driver does find my mouse every time I boot and
works pretty easily.
It looks to me like another driver problem in Windows 7...
Any hint?
From my experience, the "drivers" are generic and the BT connectivity
is a "standard" BT connection/pairing process that should not be
specific to any BT mouse.
I have a 5000 as well as two other MS bluetooth models plus a non MS BT
mouse and they all work without problems on a number of different XP and
XPPro machines and have worked on multiple versions of intellipoint from
5.x to 6.1
To break things down;
is it a "connectivity" (pairing) problem?
if so, what BT stack is running? (ms dongle, built in bluetooth, non ms
dongle)
do other BT devices pair and work? if so, what are they?
if paired, does it work as a generic mouse? (intellipoint not running)
running intellipoint, has the 5000 been specified as the mouse type in
the intellipoint setup?
Beverly Howard
Are you certain that the mouse was in discovery mode? (on the 5000,
button bottom press 5 seconds until red/green indicator) No Passcode or
"none"
Also, are you sure that the PC's BT was active as there are sometimes
multiple ways for it to be disabled such as a hardware switch and in a
"radio control" control panel applet plus within the BT software interface.
It seems that several undetermined reasons cause a paring break such as
pairing it with a different computer then returning to the original or
perhaps extended battery removal.
fwiw, I now maintain a "pairing" text reference file containing the
pairing steps for multiple BT devices as there are a number of different
methods used.
Beverly Howard
and the mouse still works but quite often it looses its connection, and it
takes a while to connect again. it does this still if im using the mouse in a
game or such.
???? plzz reply to my email as well.
JimT
might check and confirm that the 5000 is set as the specific mouse on
the button tab... that presents the fields for the available buttons...
...however, if you program it for a mouse with more buttons and use it
with another such as the presentation mouse, the button assignments
remain in effect if you switch back to the original mosue.
Beverly Howard
I could pair my mouse with Vista, but it wouldn't do anything after that.
What I did that finally worked was I held the button down to make it
discoverable, took my finger off the button when the light started blinking
green/red, THEN clicked add device (wait until you make it discoverable). I
let it pair, my taskbar notified me it was installing
updates/drivers/whatever for the device. After it did that, it worked :D
All around, it's a great mouse, Microsoft just doesn't have enough
documentation for it. Once they get that fixed, it's smooth sailing :)

You must remove the HP Bluetooth software and install Microsoft Bluetooth

HP has a SUPPORT COMMUNICATION - CUSTOMER ADVISORY
Document ID: c00711848
HP Notebook PCs - Removing the HP Bluetooth Software and Installing the
Microsoft Bluetooth Stack
It's not a Microsoft issue, it's an HP issue.
Following the advisory works, and I would only add that at one point, where
it says to "Press the wireless activation button to restore power to the
module. The "Found New Hardware" wizard should display questioning if Windows
Update should find the driver. Select Yes this time only. " This did not
work, and I had to use "add new hardware" from the control panel in order to
allow Windows to install the Microsoft Bluetooth stack.
It works.
