Disable TTS

I don't desire that my MsAgent Speak with TTS, how to disable TTS in my
Windows 2000 and Windows 98

As a user or as a developer?

As a user, just display the Agent property sheet. If you don't know how, go
to the sample page Try Out Microsoft Agent which you can get to from the
Agent web page and right click on the character and there will be a menu
item that displays the dialog box. In the dialog, click the Output tab and
uncheck the option that enables audio output.

As a developer, there are several ways to disable audio output. One is to
use the Think method rather than then Speak method. Another is to use the
\Vol speech tag in your Speak method to turn the output volume off (=0).
Another is to use the \Map tag in your Speak statements and not provide an
audio parameter.

A better way is to remove the character's TTSModeID property value (assign
it an empty string). That way, the TTS engine isn't even being loaded. The
other ways you mention still load the engine but stiffle the output.

this is a reverse of the his question.

I want to add a tts voice for an agent that was made with out one. i added
the voice key. with the new mash. but it still did not give them a
voice.? thanks i would also like to know if there is any way of making
these agents with out voice's use a default voice on the viewers computer.
so i could use these agents on my web site.

ideas are good. but actrual code it great. 8-) i can understand html and
a little vbs not very much. and a little more of JAVA SCRIPT thanks.

1) The engine must be installed on the machine, with any additional Speech
DLLs as needed for foreign languages
2) The character's LanguageID property has to be set to a language the
engine supports
3) The character's TTSModeID property has to be set to the engine

Agent already does that by default. If there is no TTS engine specified in
the character file or in script, then Agent will use the first compatible
TTS engine it finds installed on the sytem that supports the LanguageID of
the character, or the Language ID of the system if the character's
LanguageID is not set either.

that is what i thought but i still cant get athena to have any voice. i
set all the check boxes in mash to the english engine and then added the
voice key to the script.

i have been able to change the voices on several others. but not putting
them on the web for you and others might not have the voice i changed them
too.

i just can not get the athena agent to have any voice.?

i was going to use her if i could get her to have the same voice of one
of the other girl agents but what good is she if she cant say
anything.?

you know i am new to all this so the only way i am able to change the id's
is with the mash program's new tts tab.

if i need to do anything else i do not know what but thanks for conforming
the default lang.. question. 8-)
