Is anyone out there who either has a large Money file or who uses MSFT Money
2001 set to download statements automatically from USAA or any other
financial institution having problems synchronizing their money files?

I have not been able to successfully sync my money file to MSN Money Central
for a long time now. I have not seen allot of posts these last couple of
days regarding the sync issues. The day before yesterday (08/29/01) I got
an error that said something to the effect of: Money was not able to
retrieve your information form Money Central....... Now, tonight (08/31/01)
I am getting an error that says: you were not logged into Passport
successfully......The day before yesterday, I tried creating a new money
file with only one account and called it a "test file". Low and behold---I
could get the new file with only one account to sync! However my large money
file that I use day to day will not. The other day I was able to
successfully disable synchronization on my day to day file and then
re-enable synchronization and set my information on Money Central
again---but it would not sync after the initial set up. I was only able to
get it to sync on the initial set up procedure when the info gets placed on
Money Central for the first time, however, all subsequent attempts to
synchronize after that failed. My money file is about 4.5 megs. I even
tried archiving all transactions before 01/01/01 to see if the size made a
difference--it still would not synchronize. The only internet or "sync"
properties that are different between the way that my everyday money file is
set up and my one account "test file" is of course the number of accounts
and transactions are much greater in my day to day Money file and it is also
set up to download statements automatically through online banking with
USAA. Is anyone out there who either has a large Money file or who uses
MSFT Money 2001 set to download statements automatically from USAA or any
other financial institution having problems synchronizing their money files?

Why was I able to synchronize a fresh newly created file with only one
account in it and not my regular larger file?

I used to be able to watch the activity light on my cable modem when
synchronization took place and I could usually tell if synchronization was
working because it would stay solid for about 20 seconds while the info was
being synchronized. Now my file looks like it is synchronizing (the
activity light on my modem is solid for several seconds), however, the error
pops up instead. It almost seems like the Money Central server cuts off
synchronization prematurely.

Several issues here:

First off, many people are having problems synchronizing with MoneyCentral.
I speculate the problem is because you had an older version of MC and lost
sync ability because of the upgrade.

Second, a 4.5Mb Money file is really quite small. Mine is in the 30-40Mb
range.

Third, I use USAA w/ Money 2002 and I have synced with MC.

Finally, I suspect that the reason that you're able to sync with a new file
is because the new file was never synced with the old MC.

But these are just guesses. I'm sorry I don't have the answer for you.

DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH on getting SYNC problems fixed.
They have been around for years. They come and go, and remember this is a FREE service,
so there is no recourse if does not function when you need it, like tax time!

This problem of SYNC will come back to haunt all of us around tax time, when all those
transactions, and stock buy/sells have to be accumulated for tax time schedule D.

This product does NOT give me confidence that I can use. Arround tax time I will
probably have to retype in all transactions, (900+ for me) to get my capital
gains/losses, etc. into a
taxcut or turbotax media.

I do not trust this msn/money sync function. It WILL be OUT OF ORDER at the worst times.

I suggest we all look for an alternative service for up/download of transaction data,
especially if you have a lot of them.

This product has had this sync problem for every release, and every update, for several
years.

I have had problems like this in the past and had to re type all transaction over again,
into my pc based software.

I suggest you use a simple FTP to transfer your Private PC money .mny file to a web
place
and then upload FTP it to the other PC, etc. instead of praying that MSN will save the
day for you!

I small web storage account can be used to save and retrieve PC files, and forgetaboutit
trying to use MSN/Money sync functions.

You should rely on Money for entering/saving your transactions - not
MoneyCentral.
