So MSN is going to Kill the great Portfolio Manager I have used for 10 years.

But I have many nonmarketable investments and regular stock trades entered
where old brokers closed and the new firm didn't get a tax cost basis.
Instead these are in Port-Mgr. (Stock Trades from Drexel Burnham or Dean
Witter are just not available any more.)

I already know much of my data on a Multi MM$ portfolio will not transfer, I
saw the preview.

( do you have a Bad Idea Dept there? )

SO... IS MICROSOFT MSN going to give us a "READER" program so we can
query our saved Backup Files?

Add a "no vote" to the dumb idea of "retiring" Deluxe Portfolio Manager.

The replacement product is a poor replacement for those who have used all
the full function options of the present version.

Perhaps more user should voice their opinions before a great product gets
gutted.

I agree also. The current full portfolio manager is the best. The new
version is JUNK.

Add me to the list. The present Deluxe Portfolio is a splendid tool. I have
searched high and low for a comparable tool/program but no joy so far. I've
excluded offerings that tie in with expensive brookerage products. Among the
free products, Google Finance is pretty good. Stockhouse.com is promising but
I haven't discovered any import function. The MS replacement product is
pretty weak. There is no provision for cash positions. And, once you've
"tried" it, it replaces the Deluxe Portfolio Manager and good luck getting
back to the original product. Why can't they leave well enough alone. First
they jiggered it so that it wouldn't run on Mac and now this!!

I've tried it a couple of time to see if it was being improved. It wasn't. I
had no problem going back to my Deluxe Portfolio each time. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/176841 . Installing the "latest version"
puts me back to Deluxe with all the data.

Thanks for the info. I'm tempted to check in from time to time and see if the
product is improved but I've been concerned being able to back out. (I know
I've tried it once but can't remember how or if I managed to restore the
original product. I think that I tried it out on a computer or harddrive that
I was getting ready to replace.)

Add me to the list! I have been using Deluxe Portfolio Manager in its
different iterations since the mid 1990's. It is the BEST tool I've found
for managing my portfolios. It's robust, fast, easy to enter data and track
watchlists, track data from my real money accounts, stock options, track
returns over various timeframes, batch entry of symbols in a single window
(very fast data entry), "As of:" too many features to list here, etc.

The "new" portfolio manager doesn't even come close! You've got to be
kidding me! It's missing so many features that I've come to depend upon.
There is no way it will come close to providing a substitute for the Deluxe
PM. If the Deluxe is retired, I will not be moving to the new version. I
will need to take a look at other portfolio manager programs, or perhaps
Quicken...

Please Microsoft, do NOT retire the Deluxe Portfolio Manager!!!!

I don't know if anyone at MSN is listening, but I'd like to add my vote to
the "me too" bunch and beg you to keep Deluxe Portfolio Manager around, at
least until the replacement provides a superset of polished features, not a
subset. The current preview doesn't come close.

I too have 10+ years of transactions and purchase lot information to compute
cost basis for IRS reporting. I have tried "full blown" Money several times,
but it is cumbersome and screwed up my DPM cash accounts and won't allow me
to force the cash balance to a certain amount. I don't want all the features
of Money, just advanced portfolio tracking that DPM already provides.

So, if anyone at MSN is listening, please, please, please, don't de-activate
Deluxe Portfolio Manager.

Well, it's official. When I logged into the Deluxe Portfolio Manager today,
I was informed that it is being retired in November. Just a few more weeks!

The day the Deluxe Portfolio Manager stops working is the day I will be
going out to buy a new Mac. Because this PM requires ActiveX controls, it is
the last remaining program that I use that requires a PC.

Will miss the Deluxe Portfolio Manager, but will not miss MS Windows. Not
one bit.

I am trying what you suggested but found a way to export or copy to a
clipboard so I can get the prices into a spreadsheet. This is what I need to
do before Deluxe Portfolio expires.

I too am very disappointed with the retirement of the deluxe tool. I am
looking for alternate tracking tool. What is wrong with MSN? I do not like
the new tool offered.

I agree with all of you, sad to see this portfolio go and haven't found a
suitable replacement. One simple feature I have always liked is the grand
total of all portfolio values (tracking multiple portfolio) or a networth
total.

Please suggest replacements if you've found them. I was wondering if I
couldn't create my own with Google Docs.

I found this while searching, looks interesting as it can be both online and
offline and believe it would be cross platform:
http://mentalecho.com/portViewer

I'd really like to find something I could use another 10 years tho...

Terrible decision by Microsoft. I hope they reconsider. It's not smart to
piss off your customers.

If you want to save/export your historical transactions, do this **before**
November cutoff:

Under the deluxe portfolio manager, Go to <more> <print> <transaction
report>

when prompted, choose date range to cover all transactions and select which
accounts. (Default is all accounts selected)

Then under the printer dialog ,select page size and then select options and
choose a file device printer like the MS XPS printer. You must already have
either the plain text file print driver installed (download or install from
OS install disk),a pdf print to text file driver, or xps driver installed.
Click ok and then when prompted give the filename you want results to be
saved under.

Depending on whether the file is a plain text one,xps one etc, you can open
the file by clicking on it. The plain text one may even be importable into
excel, with some editing in notepad or equivalent to remove headers, and only
include sections with buy and sell lists.

MS will loose a lot of traffic to their website when this manager is no
longer available. Interesting decision, as you would have thought their
mission to defeat google, would make them want to keep loyal users. As others
said this manager was streets ahead of the competition.

I can't believe MSFT is doing this to us. I've used this product for 10+
years.
Has anyone found a decent replacement?

Thank you. I did that. The .xps file is sorted by transaction date within
account, irrespective of investment.

How do I export my data to a spreadsheet? Fortunately I have a backup from a
few days before they quit. I have all my trades from the last 10 years
archived there. The program opens & immediately becomes unresponsive.

This is exactly why I will never trust "cloud" computing - especially for
financial data.

What are Microsoft doing?

Use Morningstar portfolio manager. It's the best.

Microsoft is unresponsive to these issues, kind of like the introduction of Windows 8, no connection , or regard, for the user. I've used it for +/- 15years and to have this sprung on us is pretty inconsiderate, especially since the transfer method they provide is unusable.
