But I have many nonmarketable investments and regular stock trades entered
where old brokers closed and the new firm didn't get a tax cost basis.
Instead these are in Port-Mgr. (Stock Trades from Drexel Burnham or Dean
Witter are just not available any more.)
I already know much of my data on a Multi MM$ portfolio will not transfer, I
saw the preview.
( do you have a Bad Idea Dept there? )
SO... IS MICROSOFT MSN going to give us a "READER" program so we can
query our saved Backup Files?
The replacement product is a poor replacement for those who have used all
the full function options of the present version.
Perhaps more user should voice their opinions before a great product gets
gutted.

Totally agree.

The "new" portfolio manager doesn't even come close! You've got to be
kidding me! It's missing so many features that I've come to depend upon.
There is no way it will come close to providing a substitute for the Deluxe
PM. If the Deluxe is retired, I will not be moving to the new version. I
will need to take a look at other portfolio manager programs, or perhaps
Quicken...
Please Microsoft, do NOT retire the Deluxe Portfolio Manager!!!!
I too have 10+ years of transactions and purchase lot information to compute
cost basis for IRS reporting. I have tried "full blown" Money several times,
but it is cumbersome and screwed up my DPM cash accounts and won't allow me
to force the cash balance to a certain amount. I don't want all the features
of Money, just advanced portfolio tracking that DPM already provides.
So, if anyone at MSN is listening, please, please, please, don't de-activate
Deluxe Portfolio Manager.
The day the Deluxe Portfolio Manager stops working is the day I will be
going out to buy a new Mac. Because this PM requires ActiveX controls, it is
the last remaining program that I use that requires a PC.
Will miss the Deluxe Portfolio Manager, but will not miss MS Windows. Not
one bit.
Please suggest replacements if you've found them. I was wondering if I
couldn't create my own with Google Docs.
I found this while searching, looks interesting as it can be both online and
offline and believe it would be cross platform:

I'd really like to find something I could use another 10 years tho...

Under the deluxe portfolio manager, Go to <more> <print> <transaction
report>
when prompted, choose date range to cover all transactions and select which
accounts. (Default is all accounts selected)
Then under the printer dialog ,select page size and then select options and
choose a file device printer like the MS XPS printer. You must already have
either the plain text file print driver installed (download or install from
OS install disk),a pdf print to text file driver, or xps driver installed.
Click ok and then when prompted give the filename you want results to be
saved under.
Depending on whether the file is a plain text one,xps one etc, you can open
the file by clicking on it. The plain text one may even be importable into
excel, with some editing in notepad or equivalent to remove headers, and only
include sections with buy and sell lists.
MS will loose a lot of traffic to their website when this manager is no
longer available. Interesting decision, as you would have thought their
mission to defeat google, would make them want to keep loyal users. As others
said this manager was streets ahead of the competition.
What are Microsoft doing?
