I am looking for a recomendation on what is going to be better for monitoring
microsoft workstations XP,Vista, Etc. SCOM 2007 R2 or Orion?

We have both and I'm being told that Orion can give more information about
the workstations, performance, etc.

I have to think that SCOM 2007 can do a better job monitoring MS
workstations\Servers.

Any thoughts?

On a single note, SCOM management packs contain company knowledge
written by the developers of the MOM applications and such which are
right there on the OM alert. Additionally you can put company
knowledge which shows up right on the alert as well which has specific
solutions. with management pack development (if you are actually
using a SCOM agent on the workstation), you can create new solutions.

I'm not sure what you can or cannot do with Orion as far as developing
new options at the workstation/server or if you can have company
knowledge/vendor knowledge at your fingertips on the alert itself but
it may be worth thinking in terms of which application will help you
to resolve issues.

with SCOM, you can run custom actions (remediations) at the agent. I
don't believe Orion gives you that option. (IPconfig /all, or a custom
vb script which performs a custom action... restarting a service ...
etc)

For what it's worth...
