Importing OE6 to Windows Mail

I've tried importing from my old backup (on XP) the contacts and messages
from my old Outlook Express 6.
Mail shows that it is downloading them to "Mail" and an imported folder is
created. So far,so good. However, when I look at the contents of the imported
folder it is "0".
I guess I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

quite a minefield you have to go through to get it to work.
