Does anyone have acopy af the apple extension - High Sierra File access.

I don't know what it does, Mac OS 9 help said I need this file. Perhaps this I why my ATAPI CD/DVD (G4 Standard Issue) drive doesn't work. My external USB burner drive works fine. The DVD was not working before I installed the burner. I have reinstalled system software, disconnected the USB, disabled extensions and even kicked the fffffff thing, NoThInG.

This is my last chance before I chuck it in the bin...... unless someone can !!HELP!!

Please
Dr

I just searched my HD (867 MHz QuickSilver 9.2), and I don't have any files by that name.  (I even searched under "high" to avoid a spelling error, but no luck).

Under "access," I have extensions:  Foreign File Access, UDF volume access, apple packet media access, apple photo access, audio CD access, ISO 9660 file access

But my computer and burner are working okay.

Oh, wait... "High sierra file access" shows up in the "Mac Help" tutorials.  Either way, I don't have it.  Guess I'm not much help  :(

Same for me I searched for "sierra" and found nothing when searched under
"access" this is what it returned:
Foreign File Access
UDF Volume Access
Apple Packet Media Access
Apple Photo Access
Audio CD Access
ISO 9660 File Access

Not sure what you are looking for sorry.

High Sierra File Access is one of five Extensions used to access non-Apple disk formats, about which apple’s Knowledge Base archive says: “Some third party applications or games ship on a hybrid CD-ROM/Audio CD. When installing these applications, the instructions might suggest turning off all extensions except the CD/DVD Driver. However, without all the necessary file access extensions enabled, the computer might give an error that the disc is unreadable.

To properly read hybrid CD-ROM discs (discs with multiple file formats), a number of additional extensions should be enabled along with Apple CD/DVD Driver. These include:

*    Foreign File Access
*    UDF Volume Access
*    High Sierra File Access*
*    Audio CD Access*
*    ISO 9660 File Access*

  • Some of these extensions are not visible in the Extensions Manager control panel, so it is likely that they will already be enabled.

However, that article applied to Mac OS 8.6 and I haven’t seen High Sierra around for a long time – and like William, I can burn perfectly well – both with my internal (Pioneer DVD-RW) and with my external Formac CD drive.

You certainly do not need anything except what came with your Mac’s System installer disk to make the drive work, although some disk formats might require either one of the above or some third-party SW…

Has your DVD ever worked, either to write or to read?

Can Apple System Profiler see it?

If you’ve been trying to burn with it, what SW were you using? Apple’s Disk burner with Authoring Support, or Toast, or something else?

If it’s in warranty then Apple TS should fix it by phone, get it into a workshop or send someone out to fix it but before looking at that route let’s look at the above…

Best wishes.

Thanks Coco & Ron

It was either the authoring support or a missing High Sierra File Access
Extension. I took care of both at once so now the problem is fixed...
