PC needs to know the domain

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Can only get to the log in stage using the IP address, which means the PC has to already be turned on and I have to log in to know it. So that will be a problem, as the idea was not to have a PC screen at all.
How do I get it to spot the PC's name?
Also, I cannot log in without knowing the PC's domain. How do I find that out.
PC is running XP media player.
