Intellimouse Drivers - Official Response

Thanks to Jim Gordon for the suggestion (and URL) for contacting MS directly
about Intellimouse drivers. Below is the official response from MS. "IF and
when" it becomes available? Whatever. Thanks for the quick Office X release
but my mouse functionality is just as high on my priority list. I understand
that Office X is a paying upgrade and the Intellimouse drivers aren't but
come on, throw me a bone here. If the Mac market occupies a large enough
segment to warrant an Office upgrade surely you can humor us with updated
drivers for your mice or at the least a release date. I'm switching back to
Kensington. Check out ebay for my cordless Intellimouse real soon. :)

F*ck 'em. I already through mine away. They obviously didn't want me to use
it, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna sell it to some who will abuse it on a
windows system.

Why did you buy the mouse to begin with? Why didn't you go and buy a
Kensington mouse because they are the only ones with X drivers RIGHT now. I
have the Microsoft wireless mouse, and I'm very happy with the way it
performs!!! So what if I don't have native drivers to program all 4 buttons
and scroll wheel like I can in OS 9? The left and right buttons work along
with the scroll wheel in a majority of native apps. As for knowing when the
batteries are dead, when the pointer don't move, insert new ones.

I applaud Apple for providing, at the very least, basic drivers to make this
mouse work. I also applaud Apple for designing an OS that can have TWO mice
hooked up at the same time, and intelligent enough to know what is what.

You sir are lacking in your God-given worth. Could you have not donated the
mouse to a local school or a church of your religion?

That's it, be happy with your sub-standard performing mouse. It could be so
much more, but it isn't. That's what Windows users do. They put up with
their computers. I didn't and switched. I did the same with my MS Mouse.

Yeah, and my brake lights work most of the times when I put press my brake
peddle - so I am happy with it.

Has anyone tried 'USB Overdrive' yet? I just installed it about a week ago,
and it works PERFECTLY! It allows you to program the other buttons, 4+5,
plus many other features of the other 3 buttons - macros, keystrokes,
scrolling, etc. just like the original microsoft driver did. It is
shareware, look for it on versiontracker.com

It's not free, but it works great until they release a real driver for the
mouse. It even lets you set application-specific settings. I'd recommend it
to everyone running X with the intellimouse.

I've tried the OS9 version (didn't pay though, since I thought the
intellipoint driver was perfectly sufficient and stopped using it), and it
is truly amazing. But the OSX version is in Beta only, so unless you want to
take the leap with beta software you may want to wait for a few weeks. As
soon as the full version is ready, I'll try it out and pay for it if it's
anywhere near as good as the OS9 version.

At MWSF I asked two MS employees about these drivers and both of them
said they'd be out by the end of Feb. They said the beta looked
pretty good, but that it wasn't quite there yet. It's mid Feb now,
and no drivers yet... time will tell.

I heard someone say that MS was actually using USB Overdrive for part
of its driver. Anyone confirm or deny that?

The website www.thinksecret.com has pictures of the Microsoft mouse
drivers for OS X. They say they should be out by the end of February as well.

I'm delighted to have my IntelliMouse working in OSX but it still won't work
at all in Classic and I haven't the resources to upgrade many of my Classic
apps that I make significant use of it's features, Entourage & OE being two.

My Microsoft Intellimouse pauses all the time... A brief hang of a
couple of seconds and then it free's up...What can I do to stop this?
I am running Mac OS 9.2.2 (it happened in 9.2.1 too)...Any input would

I'm using a wireless intellipoint explorer mouse and it was working
great for the first week I had it, but now it just stops working. I'll
move it a few inches and then it will stop and not move any more. It's
very strange. I'm using OS X. Anyone have similar problems? Solutions?
