Don't bother. Registration does nothing other than sign you up for an
email newsletter.
PLEASE read the other posts - yes the website is hosed up, but ALL that
registration does is sign you up for an e-newsletter.
Wait a couple of weeks and try again - you lose NOTHING.
> Same problem here ... invalid ID. Good old Microsoft!
No need to fret - the website is hosed.
But registration provides nothing other than the chance to sign up for
an electronic newsletter which you can sign up for here without entering
a PID:

Granted, it should work!
OTOH, if the only issue you have with Office is about something that has
nothing to do with Office, that's pretty good!
You're wasting time. ALL that registration does is allow you to sign up
for an electronic newsletter, which you can do at
I had the same problem: a valid PID but no joy in registering. Forget trying to cut and paste; that doesn't work either. Maybe Apple will get iWork to be cutting edge and then Microsoft can beg Google to buy them. Otherwise, I might just decide OpenOffice or NeoOffice is the better way to go.
why doesn't Microsoft address this problem
and why don't they let you cut and paste it from somewhere instead of transcribing it by eye
I'm glad to see this blog. Thought I was having a serious case of
dyslexia trying to enter the product ID. Don't you have to be
registered to have support?
Thanks.

Not on this list. :-)
Microsoft offers very little support. You would need the registration key if
you every needed to prove you owned Office to get a new CD as an example.

CD Key (usually found on the box). The Product ID is used to register. It is
provided during the installation process. I usually take a screen shot of
it. It will look something like this:
11111-130-0001111-12345
"Registration" has nothing to do with the operation of the software - unlike
the Activation required for MS Windows software. It's little more than a
marketing tool. It will put you on a Microsoft email list. You can sign up
for the newsletter without registering.

Addendum: The Product ID is also listed in the Word | About Word dialog,
etc (adjust for any office app)

when you say you 'reloaded' office mac, did you do a remove first? you
need to use the 'remove office' tool, not just drag the application
folder to the trash. Using the remove office tool will remove the
product key registration info as well. it sounds like you bought a mac
with a pirated copy of office installed.
find the remove office tool here:
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove

you need to give us more details. Where was it bought? What version is
it?
If there is a real problem with the product key, you will need to
contact customer support at Microsoft to get a new one.
