Word 2008, pictures are "absolute" relative to page grayed out...

I have a document in which I have placed about 40 pictures. I want to
resize the document, but I notice that the images I placed are
absolute in their size. When I click format picture it tells me the
size is absolute, and relative is grayed out. How do I make them
relative to the page size?

Assuming you're in Format Picture> Layout> Advanced> Picture Position, the
Relative Position settings you're referring to only pertain to 'Drawing
Objects' (AutoShapes). It does not apply to photographs, Clip Art or other
images unless you Group them with a Shape.

However, those settings have absolutely nothing to do with the *size* of the
images. They refer to *positioning* only. There is no feature in Word that
will scale objects or images automatically when you alter page dimensions or
margin settings or anything else.

You can position a picture relative to the page borders, but you cannot set
its size relative to the page size.

You either set the picture size relative to the original, or to an absolute
size.
