Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to insert bullets without using my
mouse. Word has shortcuts for "bold" and "italic", shouldn't it have
one for bullets? I know I'm being lazy, but isn't everyone these
days?
Thanks,
KitKat

Try typing an asterisk (*) at the beginning of the new paragraph, then press
Tab.

How about holding down the option key while pressing 8 to get the
bullet, and then hitting Tab at the beginning of a new paragaraph?

Yep, and if you don't want to go off the main keys you could create an
AutoCorrect item to substitute, say, "bb" with an Option-8 bullet as soon as
you hit the tab key.

For further reading, if you're interested, check out "Examples of
AutoCorrect items I靶e assigned" on page 85 of some notes on the way I use
Word for the Mac, titled "Bend Word to Your Will", which are available as a
free download from the Word MVPs' website
(http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Bend/BendWordToYourWill.html).

[Note: "Bend Word to your will" is designed to be used electronically and
most subjects are self-contained dictionary-style entries. If you decide to
read more widely than the item I've referred to, it's important to read the
front end of the document -- especially pages 3 and 5 -- so you can select
some Word settings that will allow you to use the document effectively.]

Well, you might think the result is the same, but it isn't:-)

To begin with, the asterisk is Shift+8, so the effort involved is the same.
Beyond that though...

If you use Shift+8 it actually applies Bullet formatting to the list [which
is what the OP specifically asked for], whereas Opt+8 simply bullets the one
para & applies no indentation. IOW, Opt+8 is simply the keystroke for typing
the € character. Not only do you not get the formatting, but you need to
repeat the keystroke for each para in the list & adjust your tab stops to
taste. Many people also prefer their bulleted list to be indented from the
left margin rather than having the bullets flush left.

Further - unmentioned before - you can also use either the *, > or - with
Shift (followed by Space or Tab) in order to trigger other bullet characters
rather than just the plain black dot.

NOTE: This is all assuming that Automatic Bullets hasn't been disabled in
AutoFormat As You Type. Although most experienced Word pros will suggest
that you kill the feature most users never do;-)

No wonder your suggestion (Shift+8) didn't work when I tried it!

25CF then hold down Alt and X at the same time. This will make a large bullet whenever you need it without indentation.
