My daughter is using Word (Office 2001) and has lost the vertical scroll bar
at the right hand edge of her page. Any suggestions on how to relocate
this? She does have the scroll bar present when initially launching Word,
the "Project Gallery" menu that appears does have a scroll bar with arrows
present. When she launches a Word document the scroll bar vanishes.

Please respond to jwe...@att.net and lynne...@yahoo.com

Thank you

Hi

The first place to visit is Word's preferences. Click on the VIEW tab then
look in the WINDOW section and make sure there's a check by "Vertical scroll
bar."

I've seen the vertical scroll bar disappear before. It looked like a
window-drawing problem to me. I have several tool palettes (toolbars)
floating beside the window. Then I open the Mark Index dialog box to
insert a large number of index fields. The Mark Index dialog sits
overtop my scroll bar (it's only a 17" screen). Once in a rare while,
the vertical scroll bar disappears, as if the computer forgot to draw
it. I believe it's always reappeared after closing and reopening the
window.

I don't believe in ghosts, but after what I've seen in Word...

Quite correct. It's a weird one. There is a general instability with Word
2001's user interface. It is seen as disappearing menus, menu items,
toolbars, and scroll bars.

We are still looking for the cause. But often you can bring it right by
simply clicking on the desktop and clicking back in the document again.

I don't know why...

Cheers
