header and footer print appearance

My headers and footers appear in 'print layout' view as a lighter
shade of text than regular font. (Lower on grayscale, I suppose).

However, when I print they're the same as regular font, although I'd
like them to be lighter - (less distracting to reader's eye).

Any advice on how to achieve this?

thanks

You can specify font color to be gray, using the toolbar font color
button

Header & Footer text normally appears lighter than document text while in
the document "layer" -- likewise, document text appears lighter when active
in the H/F layer. This is normal behavior in Word in order to better
distinguish between one and the other.

As Dwain suggested, if you want the H/F to actually print lighter change the
font color for that content.

Thanks Dwain and CyberTaz,

I followed your instructions and it works for print as pdf, but when
it comes to paper, my printer does not show the lighter gray - it's
simply blank space.

Then check all of your print/printer settings in the Print dialog. Make sure
you don't have something like "Black & White" turned on -- if you do some
printers will render anything above a certain brightness level as black but
render anything below that threshold as white.

If you still have a problem it might be a good idea to check the printer
mfr's web site for an updated driver.

Customise your Header and Footer styles.

Set the font colour in the header style and the footer style to grey.

Cheers
