Equation Editor formulas disappear

Hello,

I have a customer whose equation editor formulas disappear at random in her
Word documents (Mac OS 8.6, Office 98)

She might be working for an hour or 5 hours on a document. She saves and
everything looks fine. When she opens up the document the next time, her
formulas will be gone. They are replaced by blank boxes. Other times, she
will open them up and they will be fine.

I have tried many things but I am hoping that someone here knows the exact
cause and solution.

This customer is a bioengineering professor who is writing a book. She has
a deadline around August. Any help would make all the difference in the
world to her.

Hi,
I may be wrong, but it may be that she is accidentally hitting one of the
function keys while she is working. Check in the preferences to see if the
field codes box is not checked (if you want to see equations do not check
it).
