Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Does anyone know if there is a fast way to remove all unused styles in a document?

I have 8 or so long files to edit today and I'd like to figure out some shortcuts.

Thanks!

As far as a "Delete unused Styles" command, no. However, if you know the
names of the styles you want to delete you can go to Tools> Add-Ins, click
the Organizer button then Command+Click the names of as many styles in the
document as you wish. Then click the Delete button. Keep in mind that only
Custom Styles can actually be deleted -- although many can be 'removed' from
the document if not in use most of the built-in styles cannot be deleted.

Thanks, Bob. Pages has this feature, so I was hoping that Word did, too.

Your suggestion won't work in this situation because I've got too many documents with too many style sheets... and I don't know which ones are in use and which ones are not.

But thanks anyway!

I'm reasonably familiar with Pages & have looked but I can find no feature
that en masse removes unused styles in a document. AFAIK you still have to
go through the list of styles one-by-one to remove them.

Perhaps what might help is Format> Style... Where you can select to display
Style in Use, User-Defined Styles or All Styles from the 'List:'. Styles can
also be deleted from there.

Not in Word 2008. You need VBA to do this.

And the code is not easy to write, because it is not possible in Word to
distinguish between "a style that was applied to text but the text is no
longer in the document" and a "style that is currently applied to text that
is currently in the document" :-)

The best way I have found is to create a new blank document, then paste the
content from the old document into it. Only styles that really are applied
to text will get pasted.

Hope this helps
