I usually create graphics for the web or Director presentations.
However, I am currently trying to create a few slides in Powerpoint
and am finding the things I can do easily in Photoshop, Flash etc.
impossible in Powerpoint.

I feel like I am being very thick, but I just can't seem to get the
text I type in Powerpoint to anti-alias. It is possible isn't it?
Doing a search for 'anti-alias text' in Powerpoint Help returns
nothing! Surely Powerpoint smooths text in the same way other Vector
software like Flash and Illustrator do doesn't it? Am I missing
something obvious? I'd appreciate someone helping me...

Helen,

If it's anything like powerpoint for PC's then the "anti-alias" / "smooth
fonts" is a feature of the OS and not powerpoint. Have a look in your
settings/control panel of the MAC for the setting.

Can you tell I'm not a mac person?!?

I agree with Taj for the most part, but he's left out a few important things
since he doesn't have a Mac. On PowerPoint X, there is a setting you need
to enable to activate text smoothing. Read on to find out how.

If you are using Jaguar, skip to next paragraph. If you are using OS 10.1.x
(check in Apple -> About This Mac), update to 10.1.5, available free through
Software Update.

Apply the Office X 10.1.2 update, free from Microsoft:
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/DOWNLOAD/OFFICEX/OfficeX_1012.asp>

Now, open PowerPoint and go to PowerPoint -> Preferences. Click the View
tab, then check the option to "Enable Quartz Text Smoothing", then click OK.
