That is a minor problem though.
The biggest issue and disappointment is that 2011 CRASHES MORE so
than the previous iteration. It crashes always almost, it seems at
will. Try running a PPT slide show? crash..I did the 'Update" that
was supposed to improve stability (160Mb or so) - its a joke, takes
more space costs me money to downlad and to top it off, nothing is
improved.
In reality Its got potential but remains boring (the crashes) and thus
is a HUGE waste of money.
Why does Microsoft continue to release products that are not stable,
and which become more difficult (complex) to use. When I prepare
material for teaching -- wait for it -- I suggest a better option and
use a Parallels - Windows - Office 2003 version for Powerpoints AND
for Excel (still has macros that actually work).
However, a cheaper and far better option is forget MS Office, the best
Office product out there for Mac users, is Open Office - It is plain,
simple and it works!

....
Some of your problems may be related to fonts. I had the same crash
problems, that disappeared after checking for double fonts, bad fonts
carried over from OSX 10.3-10.5 and Microsoft Office 2004-2008, etc.
A great help is Fontdoctor and Fontagent pro as well as apples fontbook.
