Advanced animations

My apologies if this has already been posted.

I am trying to recreate a Jeopardy-like game that I successfully made with an older version of PP (XP, I believe.) In Office Mac 2008, the animation options seem very limited.
Is there a way to make objects disappear WHEN CLICKED and stay that way? I only seem to be able to do animations in a pre-specified order.

To explain:
Imagine the Jeopardy board. I want the point values (text boxes) to disappear when clicked, and also hyperlink to the appropriate slide. After the question slide, I want to return to the game board and have the completed questions still invisible. Again, I was able to do this in old versions of PP.
