Presentation won't save: file is "read only"

In the course of revising an old presentation, I saved as I was going along. But when I finished, and selected Save, I got a message that the file was Read Only. And when I tried to Save As, with a different name, I got a message that there wasn't room, which as far as I can tell is false. Why should it suddenly not let me save?
