I did some experiments using different compression rates. It seems that the
lower the compression rate, the more of the end is cut off (e.g.,
32kbps/24Khz is pretty bad, 128kbps/44Khz is hardly noticeable). So, my
assumption is that the last chunk of data is being ignored. For lower bps
files, this equates to 1/2 a second. For higher ones, it's a fraction of
that.
I also tried compressing them in different programs (Itunes, Cleaner) and it
doesn't make a difference.
When I transfer the presentation to a PC, all the files play fine.
Any ideas? Sure sounds like a bug.
Please reply to me directly as well as to the newsgroup.

Try trashing PowerPoint's preferences. If that doesn't fix it (which it
probably won't but it's at least worth a try) then use the feedback feature
under the Help menu to let Microsoft know about the problem.
