It would help if you could tell us what add-in you are trying to install. In
general, PowerPoint add-ins have file extensions of .ppa and should be put
into the Microsoft Office Add-Ins folder.
The you open PowerPoint and use Tools > Add-Ins and then click the Add
button so you can located the add-in for PowerPoint to use.
It is possible to make add-ins that don't work by using Active-X controls.
If the add-in's author used Active-X then the add-in won't work.

First, I would appreciate it if you would not use my name in the "from"
field when posting your messages. In fact, I insist that you never do it
again.
The add-in you are trying to use contains Active-X controls, so it will not
work on anything other than Windows.

You're in the Mac PowerPoint newsgroup. In future, it'd be more useful to
post in microsoft.public.powerpoint
But here's the deal: the addin you've downloaded is for PowerPoint 2000
only.
It won't work with PowerPoint 2002 (XP) but no worries ... the same
functionality is already built in.
Try Insert, Picture then choose New Photo Album.
