Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

After I download a ppt and open it, the ppt goes straight into presentation. When I hit esc to exit the presentation I can not edit the presentation, nor print it (which is what I'm looking to do). If you have any ideas please let me know. Thank you

Are you attempting to "open" the file in a Finder window or on the Desktop?

What you've downloaded isn't a .ppt file, it's in some other format such as
.pps which is designed to *run* rather than *open* when double-clicked.

In PowerPoint use File> Open & you shouldn't have any trouble.

I have the same problem. Is there no way of opening the file in the "edit" mode by clicking on it? It's somewhat annoying if you have to open Powerpoint first and then open the file via File->Open. Thanks for hints!

As stated in my reply the file behaves according to the manner in which it
was saved, so if it's saved as a PowerPoint Show that's that's how it's
intended to work. If it's work of your own save it in the appropriate
format. If it's from another user open the file in PPt then use Save As to
create a copy as a presentation file rather than as a show.

I have the same problem with a powerpoint file that I downloaded from an e-mail. It opens in presentation view. When I right click>End Show the file is closed. No menu bar is visible so I cannot use file>save as and the keyboard shortcut does not work. Any ideas?

As stated in the reply to the OP:

"In PowerPoint use File> Open & you shouldn't have any trouble."
