Once in a while there a special offers for Xbox Live Gold where you can get a month for a buck. I have got them about three times as I own a xbox 360 and xbox one s for the older Forza Horizon and Motorsport titles. Just waited for the special offers to unlock some multiplayer xbox awards and doing some credits grinding through custom mulitplayer races with ki opponents.
Got even the xbox ultimate pass with xbox live gold for november and december this year for 1 euro per month. I wanted to be sure that the loyaltiy bonus cars in FH5 would be unlocked so I played all the games in the week before the release of the new one.

I use gamepass ultimate, I only pay for half the year because I earn enough Microsoft rewards points to get every other month for free. If I was to only use Xbox live gold it would be free all year as it costs 5500 points and Xbox gamepass ultimate is 12000 points. So I guess my point is if you buy the first month you can keep going for a lot less money than you would think, it just takes a little effort.
for GW2 internet connection is required to play any part of this game however, xbox live gold is only required for playing online multplayer with real people, without a gold subscription you can play solo ops against A.I. enemies, the 2player split screen can only be played locally
I have GW1 and live gold has just expired and I don't want to pay again for it but I want to play with GW so I was looking for a solution that seems to be GW2. Has said above also asking to the certified retailers where I live (Gamestop) it was impossible to have warranties that it will work without live gold (they just repeat that I need an internet connection... 'do I need live gold ?' ... 'you need an internet connection' .... :-(
The packaging for playable Xbox Live titles on the original Xbox console featured a trademark luminescent orange-gold bar underneath the Xbox header. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Brute Force sported a Live "bubble" design, as they only featured downloadable content. It was changed later, wherein all Xbox Live titles included the universal orange-gold Live bar. By the time of the Xbox 360, all titles were required to provide at least a limited form of Xbox Live "awareness".[clarification needed] In July 2004, Xbox Live had reached 1 million online users.[29] In July 2005, Xbox Live had reached 2 million online users.[30]
This is what I said in the empire thread but will also post it here :
IMO this is a missed opportunity, they should have just ended the gold annual pricing earlier and set it to 4.99/month (Same as annual pricing /12) (Unlike their previous failed attempt at just canceling the annual pricing and leaving it at $9.99) then rise it by $1 at the same time as the other tier making $5.99 (due to how long it have since the last rise for Xbox live it would have been more than justified).
Adding all Game Pass titles (or at least the 1st party) but with ads (like the rumored tier a while ago) and (1-6) months delay.
It should have instead been named "Live Pass" (truly the most outrageous miss of all).
They should have also added multiplayer in the standard Game Pass console so that all their offering have live gold benefits but just killed GwG entirely.
Now it would have been
Live Pass(ads supported game pass with release delay): 5.99
Game Pass Console: 10.99
Game Pass PC: 10.99
Game Pass Ultimate: 16.99
If you're still unclear on anything, I'm more than happy to clarify. I know this by experience because I have my girlfriend's Xbox as my home Xbox, allowing her to access all the games I've purchased, and my Xbox live gold status.
