The one piece of good news I have for you is that you can change the
color of a hyperlink by going to Format > Theme Colors. The font itself
can be changed like the font of any text. Unfortunately, getting rid of
the underline is not possible (other than by the stupid trick of putting
a mostly transparent shape on top of the word and making that shape the
hyperlink). As for the PDF not looking good on a PC, I'm not sure why
that would be. Once it's a PDF, it should be about the same on any computer.

For a newly typed entry point to & click the AutoCorrect Options button that
appears below the beginning of the hyperlink, select "Undo Hyperlink". Or,
just Undo (Command+Z) once the automatic hyperlink style is applied. You can
also avoid the conversion in the first place by going to PowerPoint>
Preferences> AutoCorrect - AutoFormat As You Type & clear the check on
'Internet & Network Paths with Hyperlinks'.
For a preexisting hyperlink, Control/Right+Click it, select Edit Hyperlink,
then click the Remove Hyperlink button.
If you want the hyperlink to stay active follow David's advice for changing
the character formatting, but the underlining will remain. However, there's
another way to disguise it if the text contains no descenders & has a solid
background color behind it:
Select the hyperlink text, go to Format> Font, select the first Underline
Style then pick an Underline Color that matches the background color.

Sometimes the Acrobat or Reader preferences can make quite a
difference, particularly the ones for smoothing text and graphics.
No, it's stupid because it is an overly complex work-around for
something that should be simple. I understand that hyperlinks should be
underlined by default. I don't understand why I need a complex
work-around to avoid this default behavior. Also, it doesn't work 100%
of the time. For example, if your text changes, the box doesn't move
with it automatically.
