have switched over to Office 2008 and have been attempting to put a chart into a PP slide. When I click on a chart type in the Gallery Excel starts up but does not come forward and Power Point first gives me this message:
"To insert a chart, you must close any open dialog boxes, or cancel editing mode in Microsoft Office Excel"
I click OK and then get this:
"Some chart types cannot be combined with other chart types, choose another type"
No chart type works you get the same message for all types. I am assuming there is something corrupted between PP and Excel. I see that back in August another user had this problem but no solution was ever posted.
Anyone have an idea?
Thanks

Any other way to fix this issue?
What happens if you launch Excel first, then switch to PPT & try to create
the chart?
What happens if you log out then log in while holding the shift key?
What happens if you take the normal steps in a new User Account?
Are there any problems if you attempt to create a chart in an Excel file?
NOTE: For future reference, reinstalling complex apps on a Mac is *rarely* a
fix for any typical problems. The application files simply do not corrupt &
those are the only ones affected by reinstalling -- especially if you don't
run the proper Remove utility before reinstalling. If the software/source
media does happen to be defective reinstalling just replaces the problem
with itself. In fact, reinstalling can mask or exacerbate the actual problem
& may even cause others. At best it's a waste of time.
