Hi all,
I have a simple pie chart, and on it i want to show a data table with
the values on it - obviously can show values on the pie labels however
would like a table on the chart showing the categories and values.

does anyone know how this is possible

Why don't you "take a picture" of the data area with the camera tool and
paste it on top of the chart.

The "picture" taken with the camera tool will also update when the data
changes.

Are you using Excel 2008? [It's always important to specify version.]

If so, select the chart then go to the Formatting Palette's Chart Data
group, open the Data Table list & select either of the 2 options.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for this suggestion. I have the same problem as above. When I do as you say, with the chart selected I go to formatting palette, chart data section, but then the data list button is shaded and no options are available by clicking. Any suggestion as to how to get the formatting palette to activate the data list options?
Thanks, in advance,
Lippoldtskivich

Okay, I've figured it out. To have the values and the category name display in a pie chart, you have to first of all realise that the format data series command does not contain this option. So, select the chart, then click on the format data series option, then click on "category name" (do not select "category name and percentage", which does not display the value, but rather the % share of the total, and also rounds the % in a strange way subtracting a point from the highest category to make things add up!). Then select the chart and right click, then click on "select data", then "select category x labels", and then highlight and select the names AND the values you wish the label to display. This works fine, but it is not at all obvious!

Cheers,

Glad you got it figured out, but this is different from the original post...
The OP wanted to add a Data *Table*, you're adding Data *Labels* :-)
