Excel Autosaves Every Time Copy/Paste

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have a large file open where I need to "find" rows and copy and paste them into a new document. Every time I copy a line, Excel goes into Autosave mode and it takes many seconds to finish, then I can see my line is selected and was copied and I can move to the other sheet to paste. This is very annoying. How can I fix this? I like the autorecover feature and have not turned it off.

Make certain that Office is fully updated as well as OS X. Repair Disk
Permissions & restart after any updates.

If the problem continues it is likely that something is interfering with the
copy operation... quite possibly a Font issue. The program has no "Autosave
mode" & copying doesn't trigger AutoRecover which is based on elapsed time
since last save. What is it that gives that impression?

I always do all of the software updates and restart. I am not changing Font during the copy and paste and it is the default Excel font. Every single time I copy a line from this large file it immediately goes to the bottom status bar and starts with 0%....2%....4%....7% ....etc. with the blue bar creeping along at the bottom until it is finished. Then my selection is marked with flashing dotted lines and looks to be selected for copying but not until that bar has reached 100%. Does that help give you the impression that something is saving somewhere?

The progress bar simply means that a process is being performed, but that
doesn't mean it is a Save process. In this case it is the process of writing
data to the clipboard. The "flashing dotted lines" is called a marquee & is
totally normal. It indicates what content is on the clipboard to be pasted.

If the copying process is taking an excessive amount of time it suggests a
font problem. It has nothing to do with whether you're changing font
formatting but that there is some sort of conflict with the fonts installed
on your Mac. This is fairly common in Snow Leopard. Launch the Apple app
called Font Book & run the Resolve Duplicates & Validate Fonts routines.

If that still doesn't resolve it launch Excel while holding the Shift key as
a troubleshooting step. Also, log in while holding the Shift key. Reply with
your findings as to whether the copy operation improves in either case.
