hi all,

i'm running 10.4.9 and entourage 11.0.0 from office 2004, my server is
through my own website sustainableevent.com (a hosting company called
http://supanames.co.uk/ (whom i'm waiting for a response from))

i can send but can't receive emails through entourage, i get the
following error;

Relaying denied. Proper authentication required. Error: -17099

the entourage help suggests;

check box. - SMTP server requires authentication

when i check the box i get the following error message;

Authentication failed because Entourage doesn't support any of the
available authentication methods. Error: -17897

what is a person to do??

i've tried resetting the account, i've checked my key chain for
errors.
when i set up the account through entourage set up it had a
verification process which was successful both for mail. and smtp.

with many thanks
shane

i've spoken to my hosting company who've said it's an isp issue.

i've spoken to my isp (which is virgin media, the ntl replacement)
who've said if it's not outlook or their own email address they don't
support it.

i found something that would let me configure the account as if i was
traveling;

1. Open Entourage, select Tools from the top menu, and Accounts
from the drop down list
2. Highlight your e-mail account by clicking on it once, and then
click the Edit button
3. On the Account Settings screen select the Click here for
advanced receiving options button
4. On the advanced pop-up window, make sure that nothing is
selected. Also, make sure that the default port is set to 110. Close
this screen to return to the Account Settings area.
5. Now, make sure that your SMTP server is set to smtp.comcast.net,
then click on the Click here for advanced sending options button. Put
a check in the box labelled SMTP server requires authentication, and
then select Use same settings as receiving mail server
6. You can now close all of the open windows and return to the main
Entourage area. Entourage is now configured to be able to send and
receive e-mail from a remote location.

and still i could receive mail but not send it getting the following
error

An unknown error (-3248) occurred

You must use your ISP's SMTP to send. This is a measure to stop spamming.

For example, I have a pair.com account. In the Account window, I have
Receiving mail section filled with my pair info, but in the Sending section,
I use smtp.comcast.net.
