Create a new Identity in Entourage and see if you can save there. It’s possible this is a sign of database corruption. Let me know what you find.

How to rebuild:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/rebuild.html>

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get merged resulting in total disaster.  It's rare but it happens.

The problem is repeating within a new identity.
I've reinstalled Office 12.2.3 (without removing any ressources or language files): it still occurs.
I've deleted all preferences files and any 'microsoft' support folders (without the receipt files), and still i can't recall the 'don't begin with' functionnality.

Thank you very much for your help (, again ;)),
Fabrice RICHARD.

Can you give us the exact criteria used in your search to see if we can
replicate? What exactly are you trying to do?

I'm trying to recreate some saved search to exclude titles of tasks that don't begin with "A: " (which i'm reserving for reminders with Alarms).
And so, i would to be able AGAIN to exclude those reminders for my new lists of tasks (as i can't reuse the 'don't begin with' and 'don't end with' criterions, wich have disappeared mysteriously from my saved searches).

Thank you for your support.

Each item (messages, contacts, events, notes, tasks) have different search criteria.

I do see" Subject Begins with" and "Subject Does not Begin" with for messages but for tasks these are not available.

You might try using “Saved Search” for one or more of your Criteria in Tasks selecting the Saved Search you created while in Messages.

I did create saved searches for tasks with criterions "Titles don't begin with"... but i don't remember with which version of Office 2008 (i'm using the 12.2.3 by now).
The 12.2.3 version of Entourage uses correctly my "OLD" saved searches but I still can't create new ones.

What's my issue, thank you.

If the problem existed in a new Entourage Identity, did you create a new User in System Preferences and try there in a new Identity?

I've tried with a new User Account: i've got the same version of Entourage as yours as the 'don't begin with'logical operator is missing.

So, if it doesn't occurs because of a third party conflict, is it the new version of Entourage? Must i downgrade to 12.0, 12.1 or 12.2?
I'm lost, thank for your next step.

I want you to try in a new User’s account. Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

===============

Let's first be clear about the terms User, Identity and Account.

An identity is a complete personality of Entourage, containing (preferences, account settings.

A User is a term used by the Mac OS. The terms Identity and User are often confused. Creating a new User in System Preferences is a good way to test in a clean environment.

Entourage stores your data in an Identity, and the Mac OS creates Users.

Your identity is named "Main" by default. It is located in the Microsoft User Data folder. Creating a new Identity is a good way to test your database to see if corruption is the problem.

Each identity can have (almost) any number of accounts. Each account is associated with a distinct email address than can be used to send and/or receive mail, but all mail is stored in the same database, all calendar events are common to all the accounts, all notes & contacts are shared.

You can have multiple accounts in Entourage. Examples: POP, IMAP, Hotmail, Gmail, AOL, Exchange, news accounts.

Sorry, for my bad english, i knew i should have wrote 'i tried' besides 'i've tried' (as it"s not the same time).

I did created a new user account (TODAY).

(notice i was tempted to write 'i did have created', but again it's not the same time again).

P.S.: I love english and english people, but i'm french.

Corentin is French so if you want to ask using French he can help you.

Grammar isn't the problem, but user terms can get confusing even for English
speakers. :-)

If the problem exists in a new User then it's a problem at the system level.
You might need to re-install Office.

I will reinstall Office 2008, but i'm disappointed.

I thought you've noticed you can't find 'begin with' with Titles with Tasks in Saved searches.

So, why should i reinstall Office 2008?

I think Entourage has been modified (by MacBU) then it have lost the code for creating this criterion.

I would like to have it back. Can you tell the MacBU Team about it?

Thank very much for your support, by the way.

Entourage hasn't been modified. I think there is just some confusion over
creating the saved search in the Messages window and being able to use it in
the Tasks window.

I think it was in Office 2004 where the saved searches went from one window to another, but not anymore in Office 2008.

I've always created my Tasks Saved Searches in the Tasks Window.

I'm amazed.

Office 2004 did not have Saved Searches, but it did have custom views. I just checked and the options " Subject Begins with" and "Subject Does not Begin" are not available in messages either as a custom mail view in Office 2004.

@Diane: Thank you for the relay with Corentin.

@Diane: i'm translating to you what i've wrote to Corentin:
About a month ago, i've succeed to create many saved searches with the criterion "Title don't begin with 'A: '" in the Tasks window.
Today, in the 12.2.3 version, i've still the possibility to make some saved search by Title but the logical operators 'don't begin with' and 'don't end with' have disappeared from the pop-up menu.
Thank you for your help.
And so, i'm asking you the same thing. Thank you.

Yes, there is confusion here. Tasks uses Titles and Messages uses Subjects.

Just to be clear....

Creating a new Identity in Entourage does not make the problem go away.
Creating a new User in System Preferences and testing Entourage in this new
User does not make the problem go away.

Then the problem is at the system level. I would first apply the latest
Apple combo just because it's a good refresh of the system, but I suspect
the Office re-install will fix it.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/reinstall_steps.html>

Check the Microsoft Component Plugin to verify what version you have
installed.

/Applications/Microsoft Office
2008/Office/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework

Original DVDs of Office come with the installed version 12.0.0.

Install 12.1.0 SP1
Install 12.2.3

Current shipping DVDs will install 12.1.0 (SP1).
Install 12.2.3
