Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Email Client: imap Hi Folks

When people send me a pdf atatchment it appears in the preview pane but when I try to open it I get the following error message 'It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize'. I've installed the latest version of Adobe but this hasn't helped.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated..

Cheers

Dan

Make sure both Office & OS X are fully updated, repair disk permissions &
see if that makes any difference.

Your installation of Adobe Reader is irrelevant if you have Apple's Preview
app set as your default for opening PDFs. If you want to have them open in
Reader instead, use Get Info on a PDF file icon in Finder, select it as the
Open With app & click the Change All button.

I had this problem (.pdf attachments being corrupted on arrival) when I
switched
from POP to IMAP on entourage.

I went into my account settings (under Entourage message) and
"options" where it says "partially download messages over
X"
I changed X from its default of 100K to 2000KB (just to be safe.) I believe
that by default this button is checked when you set up your account, so if you
do nothing you won't be able to fully download large attachments. I believe
this is what entourage means when it says "file is corrupted or
unrecognized" - it's not really downloading it at all!

I then sent myself attachments including .docx and .pdf and they opened fine.

I went back to the attachments I hadn't been able to open earlier and they
both
opened fine (which was possible because IMAP leaves the copy on the server by
default.

So, at least in my case, despite the many messages about this problem on
various
internet forums saying check your cache, update your spyware, blah blah blah,
it's a simple setting on entourage. Hope that helps.
