Hello,

Just downloaded the new Messenger 7, but whenever i try to login to my
account i get the message "the password is incorrect or the name
doesn't exist."

1. i have no problem to sign in to my account anywhere else from
Windows (haven't tried other Macs).

2. the password and e-mail address i am typing are the correct ones.

3. i AM able to login through a third party software called aMSN on
the Mac. it's not a firewall issue.

This is probably a MS Messenger issue - please assist !

Thanks
rotemx

I'm having the exactly same issue. My account logs in perfectly on other
computers, and using Adium on this same Mac. But the messenger:mac keeps
saying that "the password is incorrect or the name
doesn't exist."

(the Mac is behind a Linux router running iptables, masquerading, you know,
the works. But it shouldn't be a router problem, as Adium logs in
flawlessly)

Same. I can't connect in my mac, and I even tried changing my password. I can connect, though, from a windows-based laptop.

Hi there,

I'm having the exact same problem except the error message I get is that the network is having problems or that I'm not connected to the Internet.

However, Adium and Mercury Messenger are signing in perfectly fine, and the old version of MSN on my other mac is signing on fine as well.

Please assist.

Many thanks,
Cheryl

Hi, if you are still having issues, please do the following.

Launch Messenger, but don't sign in
Click the "Sign in with different account . . ." link
Choose "Clear Account History . . ." and click OK
Quit Messenger
Launch Messenger and enter your account information again and try to
sign-in.

Let us know if that works. If it doesn't, are you behind any proxies?

Thanks,
Rebecca

Did not work. I'm not behind any proxies. I am behind a router, but
everything works out of the box except messenger:mac.

Thks, rebecca. I was actually having some problems with my display picture
(messenger refused to let me change the picture whether the onboard ones or
my own). Cleared the account history and it now works brilliantly!

Hello

You at microsoft are NOT listening to us - the public. We all have problems
with msn mac 7, whether it be the usename or password issue or the one saying
"you arent connected to the internet"

Please sort it. Either find a fix, release a new patch, or find a workaround
that actually WORKS.

Hi Dan, we are listening. We monitor the newsgroup frequently. We are
investigating, but until customers are willing to go through the full
troubleshooting that has been posted several times since release there is
not much we can do. If everything fails then we need logs. I have requested
that several times now and unfortunately I have received 0 logs. I am not
trying to be defensive. I want to help everyone get online. I can only make
suggestions of things to try and ask for you all to gather and send me
information so that we can further troubleshoot the problem.

There are many customers who are not having issues with signing in and who
are using the Messenger 7 product everyday.

I am posting the same text that I have sent to several others today and
hoping that you or someone else is willing to help us troubleshoot the
issue.

Do you have any extended characters in your password? If so, can you change
to an all lowercase alphabet based password and see if that works?

Another user also pointed out issues with a particular version of the
firmware on Netgear routers causing problems in a post on 5/27 that may be
of interest if you are running a Netgear router.

Also, please see the post on 5/19 and 5/23 where I suggest specific
troubleshooting regarding signing into the personal service.

If you are unable to sign-in, after trying the various things, I need to get
logs in order to help troubleshoot the problem.

Yes my problem turned out to be a Web Proxy server that was configured in
System Preferences / Network. MSN Messenger Preferences was set to
"Automatically configure using network preferences". I turned off the proxy
settings in System Preferences and it worked.

Please let us know if reverting the firmware version resolved your sign-in
