Not sure if I understand your question, but here goes.

#1) Is your internet working?
#2) Do you have the latest version of Messenger? http://www.microsoft.com/mac
#3) Firewall? Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Security >
Firewall. If your firewall is running, then add the Messenger app to
the list of approved programs. It will take care of the port
settings.

Good luck,
jg

Hi!
It might not be that simple. You cannot use the latest version of Messenger:Mac as it does not support webcam (a public beta that does support webcam will be released in March).
You will have to use aMSN to use webcam until then.
As for the firewall you need to check if your router/cable modem has a firewall. If that is the case, turn the MacOS X firewall off and find out what model you have and go to http://www.portforward.com/ to find out how to forward ports for the MSN protocol.
Since you get the white screen when the MacOS X firewall is turned off (all ports are open then) I think you have a router/cable modem with a built in firewall.
Good luck!

I checked the internet (Google BT Home Hub and port forward and you'll find plenty of help) but I think it's fairly simple:

- Log in to the BT Home Hub
- Go to "Advanced"
- "Log on as different user"
- Enter "admin" for pass and name.
- Select "Toolbox"
- Select "Game and Application sharing"
- Select "Create a new game or application" (check if MSN Messenger is in the list)
- "Assign a game or application to a local network device"
- Select the "Game or Application" (i e MSN)
- Select your "device" (your network card's MAC address by default)
- select "Add"

You're done!

If MSN is not on the list, Google to find out which ports to open.
The MacOS X firewall should be turned off in System Preferences.

I used to be able to cam on messenger. Friends tell me they cannot see my cam icon when we chat but I can see the cam icon on my screen. When i request them to videochat they get a blank white screen showing only, no video. I noticed this satrted happening when I got a amsn request to accept a update plug-in. I am using the MacBook. Tnx please help.
