My trusty old copy of MSPUB 2.0 (Windows 3.1 version), used to prepare a
weekly publication, last week suddenly lost its ability to access old files.
When I try to call one up the machine stalls and when I move the mouse off
the window, the program locks and XP pops up a "not responding" message. When
I tell it to close, it pops up a message saying the "Win16 subsystem may be
unstable."
I've been running it for past 3 months on a relatively new desktop (3GHz
P4, 1 gig of memory) loaded with WindowsXP Home. It still seems to run okay
on older machines loaded with XP Professional. Looking through Google I see
some references to problems with file access for 16-bit programs, but so far
nothing specific that has enabled me to make a fix. Any ideas?
