I bought a Microsoft Laptop Optical Mouse 3000 to use with my Dell Inspiron
700m running Windows XP. The software CD that came with the mouse simply
won't install. It says that there is some previously installed software that
could be incompatible with the mouse, and asks if I want that software
unistalled. I say "yes" and it doesn't appear to do anything and then shuts
down the computer. I have tried this repeatedly with the same results. I went
to the Microsoft website and downloaded the software again from the website.
Exactly the same thing happened. I know it's "ipoint" software so I searched
and couldn't find any earlier version of "ipoint" to remove. The program
doesn't tell me WHAT the incompatible software is so there is no way to know
what needs to be removed. This is simply ridiculous - a microsoft mouse that
won't install on a windows XP machine. The mouse was $39.99 at Circuit City.
What a rip off! I am going to return it unless someone can tell me how to fix
this. I put the text statement in Google and came up with a Dutch (yes,
Dutch) statement on how to fix this - but again there is nothing specific
about WHAT the offending software is so I have no idea how to figure out what
to fix. I even tried installing an earlier version of "ipoint" (v 5) but got
the same result. Here's the link to the Dutch response to the problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838616/nl. I ran the Google translation
software but the answer is no help. Any suggestions? I have exhausted all the
options I could think off. Who would have imagined that buying a simple
Microsoft mouse for a Microsoft machine would have resulted in such a mess?
Maybe it's time I moved to a Mac.
