WSUS for Initial Microsoft Updates for new Server Builds

Has anyone successfully used WSUS to update new servers from the original
build? I do not want the System Admins using Internet Explorer to download
the updates when they are building a new server. I would like them to use
the approved updates from the WSUS server. They said they have tried and it
takes forever to get a server updated.
