I'm running XP Media Center 2004. A few days back I got a bad virus(es?)
that installed Trojans, spyware, adware, and an application called
GenericArtemis. I ran McAfee, Defender, and Spybot and got rid of all but
this application. Defender keeps popping up with warnings about
GenericArtemis, but is unable to remove it. I thought I had solved the
problem by going into the command mode and deleting it through DOS commands.
It did say it was deleted, but the next day Defender found it again.

Does anyone know how I can permanently rid my computer of this application?
Thanks

System restore to the day before infection and after that turn off system
restore and restart your computer. After restarting turn system restore
monitoring on all discs on again.
Remember that even when it's deleted it's "history" image is still in system
restore thats why turning it off - which is deleting all files from sys
restore is so important.
If infection is really bad ... I love to reinstall my system :) Computer
works like a charm after that. I did that few days ago on one of my
computers after 5 years without any problems ...wow Win XP was running for
so long without one :o 24/7 for 5 years ....
