How can I click on the inbox and not open the mail, I would like to double
click to open

From menu bar select View>Layout...
and there uncheck the box "Show preview pane".

There can be many reasons for not recieving emails.
Did you set your incoming and outgoing servers correctly?
From top menu select Tools>Accounts
then select "Servers" label and look for "Incoming mail:" and "Outgoing
mail:".
What does it say?
