I have ISA 2004 running in single interface mode as a reverse cache proxy and
forward cache proxy.

When I browse from a computer (XP pro) using ISA 2004 as proxy in Internet
Explorer setting, and I go to a website (i.e. www.smh.com.au), it shows me
the recent main page. When I click a link and click the BACK button, the main
page turns to be yesterday's page.

How come the main page can be different? ISA 2004 should have updated the
cache and when my computer pull the main page, it should always pull the most
up-to-date cache.

Go to cache properties you have, and next go to cache store and retrieval, and choose "Only if a valid version of the object exist........"
