Request for Participation in an Academic Study

School of Information Studies, requesting your help in a study of how
people think about and talk about Web pages. This is NOT a commercial
project and we have no sponsors; we are merely trying to learn about
human beings' use of emerging technology.
What we are asking you to do is this: The next time you are going to use
the Web for ANY purpose - to find information, go shopping, anything -
please visit our online survey at <http://europa.syr.edu/survey/>. We
want to make our research as natural as possible, so we want you to use
the Web for any real problem or interest that you may have. In the
introduction to our survey, we will ask you to fill out some information
about what it is that you are using the Web for. Then just continue to
use the Web as you ordinarily would. Our survey will pop up
periodically and ask you a few questions about the web page you are
currently looking at, and then disappear when you submit your responses.
Our focus is on individual web pages, although we will ask you a few
general questions about yourself so that we can describe the range of
different types of people whose data we have collected. It is very
important that you understand that we will not be gathering any data
about your identity, and all our data will be aggregated so there is no
chance of you being identified at any point in our research process.
We are asking you to participate because we need to get data from a wide
variety of people who are searching for information from a wide variety
of web sites. We appreciate your assistance.
